I don't who else to turn to. You've helped me before, so please help me once again. Open HJT and choose scan and save a log file. Post the contents of that log in your next reply. Each time I ask you to do this a new log will be saved within that folder replacing the last one.
Once answered, any log not replied to in 3 days will be closed. If this site has been of help maybe you would consider making a small donation so we can continue to help others. I have no idea what is wrong with my computer. Here is the log: Logfile of HijackThis v1. Please disregard that one. I can't use my task manager.
I get thousands of pop-ups from a website called "udefender" or something. It pops up from internet explorer, and it lags my computer. I can't use any program on my computer without the virus disrupting it and lagging my pc. I tried system restore, but it didn't work.
My friend said that I can reformat my pc, but I don't want to do that. I have too many file on this laptop.
O BOY ya got a few things going on here. Please do not download anything while we fix this machine. You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix. Save it to your desktop. Please double-click OTMoveIt. Click the red Moveit! If you are asked to reboot the machine, choose Yes. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal. Then right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and left click on properties.
Click OK twice, and restart your computer. These Pages will work no matter what. Have HJT fix them. Set Cookie Retention. Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies. Click on the Options block on the left. Select the Advanced button. Check "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours". Now run the program and click on Run Cleaner Do not use the Issues block to clean anything with this program.
It is for experts only and it is risky. The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files. Could this possibly be related to the reinstallation of the HP scanner? It's an extraneous startup item and Hijackthis gives an average user an easy way to stop it permanently. I have stated my opinion before about msconfig and will repeat here:. Msconfig is an excellent diagnostic troubleshooting tool devised by Microsoft engineers. Unfortunately it is used as the Holy Grail for "permanent" fixes of startup items by well-meaning souls read vendor phone support techs.
It was never designed to be used for a permanent fix. I am sorry I didn't properly ask for a Hijackthis log. The reason I routinely ask for one is A: we can fix minor problems in the startup area and B: most people have other issues we can spot before things get worse.
A survey earlier this year of 1 million computers found 29 million malware infections files, registry entries, etc.. You may well have a clean log except for the little HP setup file and I am really ticked at how their scan and printer software has grown to behemoth levels. But you could also have Backweb another HP little goodie I won't allow on my machine as well as others.
Your caution is good Canned Hijackthis log request follows signature file. All the best,. Download the hotfix version 1.
Name this folder HJT for best and safest results. Don't place it on the Wallpaper, in a temp folder, or in the root level of the C: drive or the My Documents folder. It will create many backup files and they need to be stored in a unique Hijackthis folder. Copy and paste the contents of the text file you save into a reply to this message.
TomCoyote still has the older 1. I have emailed them to update, but they have a lot of people out due to illness and other issues. The posting tutorial there is still pertinent for the new 1. You're mad if you think Microsoft patches, updates or service packs have anything to do with protecting you from malware.
All SP2 has in it is a few IE tweaks. This is dangerous advice to give someone. I clean malware out of SP2 PCs all the time. Okay I'll get on it right away. Now I seem to have gotten another message, again: ''Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecogized versions. I don't know if that is good or bad to be honest. My Norton is on but I doubt that deals with the problem?
I found the link at Microsofts site, but I really need someone who can give me a solution and a dummies guide. I really don't want to take risks. I've had bad things happen before. Oh I've just realized my computer seems to have gotten rid of my old Windows Firewall and now I can't find it. Where's the best place to get it? That first repair reinstall seems to have taken away more than I expected.
I know about download. And I've checked the WindowsUpdate site, but can't seem to find one. Sorry about the double post but the edit button seems to have dissapeared. So after loosing every program in the first repair, I lost my Sound Blaster Audigy 2. In other words, I have no sound now. And the problem is the disc I have is now 4 years old and damaged, it refuses to load.
Now yesterday I took it with me to get it repaired but he warned me of the scratch remover not being effective once I'd payed.
As the disc had managed to make holes visible from another side. Now after using ''Search'' I found the program stored, so it must of hidden itself. Whenever I click on the boot up, the main menu appears, but then vanishes within an instant.
